The POW

Pre-ground Coffee:

  1. Fill the POW with coffee to 2 fingers high
  2. Pour water over the coffee until the liquid reaches the top of the filter
  3. Allow for the water to drain (about 10 seconds). 
  4. Refill the filter to the again and allow for the water to drain. 
  5. Fill the POW again for a total of 3 pours
  6. Leave the POW submerged in the coffee for a steeping time of 3 to 5 minutes, depending on preference

Grinder in hand or plugged in:

  1. Adjust coffee grinder to almost the finest setting. If you have a hand grinder, adjust to 1 turn away from the finest. If you have an electric burr grinder, adjust to 2-3 settings away from the finest size.
  2. Fill the POW with coffee to 2 fingers high.
  3. Pour water over the coffee until the liquid reaches the top of the filter
  4. Allow for the water to drain (about 20 seconds). 
  5. Refill the filter to the again and allow for the water to drain. 
  6. Fill the POW again for a total of 5 pours
  7. This whole process of pouring should take around 2 minutes. 

If you have a scale:

We here at Traveling Jo use specific ratios for water to coffee. We recommend using a 1 to 16.4 ratio (for every gram of coffee, use 16.4 grams of water). This of course depends on coffee origin and roast type. This is simply the most universal ratio we have found to produce the optimal cup of coffee!
